Beers of Summer #1: FATHER’S DAY

Columbus Brewing Company's American lager is the first in our showcase of local summer beers from Central Ohio.

Some people say we have reached peak microbrew — especially in Columbus, where rapid gentrification makes it feel like the epicenter of the the craft brew explosion.

Back in 2017, Columbus was the 9th beer-iest city in the US, judging by microbrewery density. Now, we’re at number three and gaining ground.

Peanut butter oatmeal stout with 40% ABV and guava-dragonfruit shandies are now available at every drive through convenience store, and developers are bulldozing brewpubs to build more brewpubs.

There’s a reason for this, though. Local beer is just better, on the whole. And why not support Columbus? What has Anheuser-Busch ever done for you? Make you cry about horse-dog friendships at the Superbowl?

This is the first in our “Beers of Summer” series; in which we showcase and celebrate the great products local breweries have in stock.

Columbus Brewing Company’s American Lager is first up. It’s a great beer for staying hydrated on a hot afternoon standing over the grill, or out in a fishing boat. And it’s just as drinkable and way more flavorful than any of the big brand domestics.

And, it’s a great beer to drink while relaxing on Father’s Day — sample all Columbus Brewing Company’s beers at their beer hall on Kelton Ave. There’s even a special on beer flights and burgers this year — check their Facebook Page for details.
